9 free WordPress themes

It looks like Brian Gardner, the developer of the Revolution theme series has decided to release one for the public. It’s a blueish 3 column widget-ready theme designed more for the end-user than being used as a web template for a designer.

Here’s a screen shot of the theme :

As you can see this theme is designed with 2 sidebars on the right, a big AdSense box below the related links area – not a very high CTR area, a big header and lots of space for the content . The banner in the header is well placed but I don’t think that the AdSense ads in the post, at the bottom of the post  serve their purpose quite well because it’s an area with a very low CTR. Aside from that, it features a series of things that most themes lack, like :

• A cross-browser compatible navigation menu. ( I’m really a sucker for these menus )
• The possibility of choosing your layout, either 2 sidebars on the left, content in the middle and one sidebar on the left and one on the right or the layout you’ve seen in the screen shot, 2 sidebars on the right.
•  The layout works flawless in IE and FF ( latest versions).

From my point of view, it’s a really nice release but it’s nothing compared to the premium Revolution themes. As an aside to the WordPress Revolution theme, it looks like iThemes have also release a set of 8 free WordPress themes. Have a look : iThemes WordPress themes

Most of us, WordPress users like to stay up to date with the latest theme release and see what’s new. I don’t know if it’s a general feeling, but from time to time I like to take a peek at the latest WordPress themes to see what the latest designs bring new in the layout perspective of WordPress. I haven’t though found a resourceful site that could satisfy this need of mine, so I went on searching and I compiled a list of my favorite WordPress theme sites.

What I like about their collection of themes is that it’s divided into categories, like : Regular WordPress themes, Turnkey WordPress themes and CMS WordPress themes.

3) WP themes FREE

This has got to be one of the largest collection of WordPress themes available online at this point. All their themes are divided into categories, so you can find the themes you’re looking for easier.

It looks like the guys from iTheme have done it again with their latest release of the Corporate theme. Coming pre-built with 6 color schemes : blue, green, orange, white, teal and red this theme has been designed especially for smaller corporations.

It comes packed with the following features :

• Web 2.0 glossy look
• 6 pre-built color styles
• Integrated blog component
• Static home page which can be edited through Dashboard and Widgets
• Widgets for easy text editing of sidebars

Short theme review

SilveRay, free WordPress theme from Blogperfume

Just two days ago, Blogperfume announced their latest release : SilveRay – a free wordpress theme featuring a nice blend of grayish colors with a twist of yellow, this theme is one of a kind.
It’s a 3 column theme, comes with a 300 x 300 banner spot predefined ( could be easily changed to fit two 125×125 smaller banners ), it’s valid XHTML and CSS and comes bundled with SweetTitle tooltip & LiveClick.
It’s a bit heavy on the gradients, but I think that’s just my point of view, beautiful background pattern, clean layout and nicely blended footer make it all worth it.
More than that, it has a few features that I haven’t seen in many themes, like : paginated posts, and the hover effect they’ve incorporated in this theme makes it even more sweet than before.
