Tutorial : How to install and configure Wordpress for a first-time run
Installing and configuring Wordpress for a first time run might not be that hard, and yet some people aren’t that skilled when it comes to installing scripts for the first time. This tutorial is written for those that need a bit of guidance with Wordpress installation and configuration. This article will actually be the first in a series.
Step 1
The first thing you’ll have to do is to go to this link Wordpress download and download the latest version of Wordpres. Be sure to check if your hosting meets the minimum requirements to run Wordpress before going to step 2. Also note that many hosts will have an easy install process for scripts such as Wordpress.
Step 2
Unzip the archive. Most computers come with a built-in archive software so we can easily take the necessity of explaining what an archiving software is out of the equation.
Step 3
Set-up your hosting account for the up-coming installation of Wordpress. Set-up a database, a user name and make sure that user name has all the privileges to access your database ( for safety reason make sure you store your user name and password somewhere safe ).
Step 4
Configure your FTP program - in simple words, add your domain ( example : wordpresslounge.com is my domain) user name ( hint : it’s usually the same one as your cPanel user name) and password ( hint : the same as the cPanel one ) click Connect.
Search for a successful connection message to make sure you’re connected.
Step 5
Browse to the folder you want to install Wordpress in, if it’s your homepage and your host is running on cPanel it’s usually called www or public_html either one of these is the best folder to upload Wordpress to.
Step 6
Enter your database information ( we set-up that on step 3 ) - write just the username and password, don’t mess with the db prefix.
Step 7
Set your blog’s title and description so people can know what it’s about. Make it visible to search engines ( or not, depends on you ).
Step 8
Log-in and change your password for security reasons.
Step 9
Enjoy your fresh Wordpress installation.
